Engineers association to assist goodwill campaign in renovating homes of underprivileged

AMMAN — The National Goodwill Campaign on Tuesday signed a three-year cooperation agreement with the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) to provide in-kind assistance to underprivileged families and renovate their houses.

Over the course of three years, the JEA will provide a total of JD75,000 to rehabilitate houses across Jordan, while JD30,000 will be allocated for in-kind aid to be distributed by the goodwill campaign.

Although the two sides have been cooperating for some 14 years now, the agreement paves the way for a more systematic partnership.

“Institutionalising our efforts will stimulate us to be more committed and up to the challenge,” said HRH Princess Basma, president of the campaign’s higher committee, citing the “uninhabitable” homes the campaign’s cadres have come across in the various governorates.

The agreement also entails naming a liaison officer from the JEA to coordinate with the campaign in implementing the deal.

JEA President Abdullah Obeidat highlighted the association’s readiness to assign a number of engineers to accompany the campaign on its field visits and employ their experience in home renovations.

“The renovation process does not require much money in some cases. This allows us to work on as many houses as we can during the three-year period,” Obeidat noted.

Launched in 1999 by Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, the National Goodwill Campaign has so far provided around JD28 million worth of assistance to 287,023 people, reaching more than 1.43 million indirect beneficiaries.
