AMMAN — The Jordanian Engineers Association's (JEA) initiative to renovate a number of houses belonging to underprivileged families across the Kingdom has so far collected JD135,700 in donations.

Lauding efforts towards the initiative that calls for good deeds, JEA President Ahmad Zubi said that the voluntary contributions have varied to include a JD15,000 land parcel in Jerash, noting that children have also made "generous" cash donations.

In addition to the in-kind contributions, Zubi highlighted the collection made by JEA's employees in support of the goodwill campaign, totalling JD5,265, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Bashar Tarawneh, the director of the social responsibility committee at JEA, said the houses to be renovated were chosen in accordance with social studies conducted by JEA.

For his part, Mutaz Shawareb, head of the preparation committee for the initiative, expressed hopes that more houses will be rehabilitated, referring to citizens' "great" efforts.

Donations for the annual campaign are accepted year-round through donation boxes set up by the JEA and to the account number 25145 at the Jordan Islamic Bank. Alawneh Exchange will also receive donations until Thursday night, Petra added.
