Fajr Company, Jinsheng International’s Ceramics Factory sign agreement

AMMAN — The Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company and Jinsheng International Trading Company’s Ceramics Factory on Monday signed an agreement to implement facilities for the delivery of natural gas using the lump sum turnkey mechanism to a Jinsheng plant in Al Qatraneh. 

Under the agreement, signed in the presence of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, the daily quantity of gas supply is 120,000 cubic metres, which will gradually increase to 360,000 cubic metres after three years of operation.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company Fouad Rashad and General Manager of Jincheng International Trading Company Wu Jiang, in the presence of Assistant Secretary General for Energy Affairs at the Energy Ministry Hassan Hiari, according to a ministry statement.

The project consists of a Hot Tapping gas grid socket, which ensures that the plant is fed from the nearest point of the main gas grid. The agreement also provides for the installation of a temporary pressure reduction and measurement plant, pending factor such as the permanent station’s supply and the work of the pressure reduction and measurement plant.

The agreement falls under the scope of a Jordanian government programme to deliver natural gas to factories, which mitigates production costs and enhances industrial competition, Kharabsheh said.

The project is one part of the “significant efforts” being undertaken to deliver natural gas to various industries. The natural gas programme is intended to enhance Jordan’s investment environment and use natural gas to reduce production costs, rationalise energy use, reduce carbon emissions and create new jobs, the minister said.

Ramping up the use of natural gas is likewise intended to increase international exports for various Jordanian and enhance their competitiveness in global markets, he added.

For his part, Rashad noted that the project falls within a framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company to promote the future of industrial sector development by improving natural gas infrastructure and supply. 

He described the signing of the agreement as a continuation of an ambitious plan to supply natural gas to industries in Jordan, which is considered an urban and environmental project.

In turn, the General Manager of Jinsheng International Ceramics said that this step is essential in the construction and operation of the plant as natural gas directly contributes to reducing the plant’s operating cost compared to other fuels, preserving the environment and enabling the plant to enter global competition and increase exports.
