AMMAN — The first group of Her Majesty Queen Rania’s mission to perform umrah — the lesser Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca — departed to Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The mission consists of 500 women from across the Kingdom, including, military personnel, those active in social service, beneficiaries of charity associations and civil society organisations, a number of volunteers and women from families of martyrs, according to a statement from Her Majesty’s office.

The duration of each group’s stay in Mecca is four days and three nights. The last group is due to complete its pilgrimage and return to Jordan on April 5.
