AMMAN — The French Ambassador to Jordan David Bertolotti on Wednesday handed over various medical equipments to the Royal Medical Services (RMS), as part of France's support to Palestinians injured in Gaza.
During the handover ceremony, which took place in Marka Medical Warehouse, the ambassador was received by the assistant director of RMS, Brigadier Dr Shawkat Tamimi, and various RMS officials.
The French ambassador discussed France's stance towards the Palestinian issue, noting that the assistance, worth 111,000 Euros, came following a phone conversation between His Majesty King Abdullah and French President Emmanuel Macron on May 14, where the two heads of states agreed on the need to continue providing support to Gazans.
"This joint Franco-Jordanian operation for civilians in Gaza is a demonstration of the excellent relations between our two countries and our common commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East," Bertolotti underlined, reiterating France's support to Jordan in its efforts to maintain regional stability and security.
France and Jordan announced their decision to work together to provide medical assistance to those injured during the demonstrations, following the recent episodes of violence in Gaza earlier this year.
"Support for the health sector in the Palestinian Territories is a priority axis for France's humanitarian action. Cooperation in the medical sector with Jordan illustrates the willingness of the president of the French republic to become even more involved in the resolution of the acute humanitarian crisis in Gaza," said an embassy statement, a copy of which was sent to The Jordan Times read.
The medical equipment and materials, which include stretchers, surgical beds, electrocardiograms and measuring devices as well as anesthesia and surgery equipment, are expected to be transported to the Gaza Strip in the coming days
The equipment will meet the needs of Jordan's military field hospital, which hosts and cares for a large number of wounded Gazans, an embassy official said, noting that the RMS of the Jordanian Armed Forces have been deploying medical support through their field hospital since 2009.
Brigadier Tamimi hailed the French support which he said "will contribute to the improvement of the medical services offered by the Jordanian military hospital in Gaza".
