AMMAN — The government on Thursday decided to maintain the current prices of gasoline, kerosene, diesel and gas cylinders for February.

The government’s decision was taken in accordance with recommendations by the Energy Ministry’s Fuel Pricing Committee, which convened on Thursday, according to a ministry statement.

Under the decision, kerosene and diesel will continue to be sold at JD0.560 per litre.

The cost of one litre of unleaded 90-octane gasoline will remain at JD0.695, while a litre of unleaded 95-octane gasoline will remain priced at JD0.905.

Gas cylinders will also continue to be sold at JD7, despite the fact that their international price stands at JD7.73.

Prices of oil derivatives in the local market are calculated based on international prices, with the additional costs of shipping, handling and taxes.

The committee said that it had referred to international oil prices, which showed that the cost of a barrel of crude Brent oil rose from $57.4 in December to $59.3 per barrel in January.

All derivatives are subject to a JD0.006 stamp fee, in addition to other fixed fees related to transport, storage and insurance.

A government committee convenes monthly to adjust fuel prices to correspond with changes in international oil prices, the statement added.
