AMMAN — The government on Saturday announced that it would open a number of land border crossings for passenger movement as of Thursday according to the health protocol and procedures that require registration on the Visit Jordan e-platform.
Minister of State for Media Affairs Ali Al Ayed told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the government had endorsed the health protocol prepared by the committee of organising border crossings, headed by the interior minister, adding that the committee will regulate the passenger and cargo movement at land border crossings.
The decision seeks to “strike a balance” between bringing home stranded Jordanians and controlling the rate of imported COVID cases, Ayed, who is also the government spokesperson, noted.
The border crossings that will be receiving passengers during this phase will be limited to Mudawwarah border crossing, King Hussein Bridge and Sheikh Hussein Bridge, according to procedures that take into consideration the number of passengers at each of the border crossing, the minister added.
Ayed pointed out that the operations director of the COVID-19 crisis cell at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management is scheduled to hold a press conference on Sunday to announce the procedures followed at each crossing.
