AMMAN — The industrial producer prices index decreased by 0.81 per cent in the first half of 2024, reaching 107.34 points compared with 108.21 points for the same period last year.

According to the monthly report of the Department of Statistics (DoS) released on Wednesday, the decrease in the first half of 2024 compared with the same period last year is attributed to a 0.97 per cent decrease in transformative industries' prices, which hold a relative importance of 88.74 per cent, and a 3.95 per cent decrease in extractive industries prices, with a relative importance of 5.36 per cent. Meanwhile, electricity prices rose by 4.66 per cent, with a relative importance of 5.91 per cent.

The general index of industrial producer prices increased by 0.4 per cent in June 2023, reaching 107.05 points compared with 106.62 points for the same month the previous year.

The report indicated that the rise in the index for June of 2024 compared with the same month in 2023 was due to a 0.53 per cent increase in transformative industries prices, which hold a relative importance of 88.74 per cent, and a 5.91 per cent increase in electricity prices, with a relative importance of 5.91 per cent, while extractive industries prices decreased by 7.30 per cent and held a relative importance of 5.36 per cent.

According to the report, the industrial producer price index for June 2024 decreased by 0.80 per cent, registering 107.05 points compared with 107.92 points for the previous month of the same year.

On a monthly change basis, the general index of industrial producer prices for June 2024 compared with the previous month decreased due to a 0.85 per cent decrease in transformative industries prices, with a relative importance of 88.74 per cent, a 0.64 per cent decrease in extractive industries prices, with a relative importance of 5.36 per cent, and a 0.22 per cent decrease in electricity prices, with a relative importance of 5.91 per cent.
