Issue 46 of Revolt’s mouthpiece reprinted

AMMAN — A reprint of the 46th issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt, is distributed with Monday’s Jordan Times issue.

The front page and half of the second page of the issue were dedicated to a coverage of a trip by the writer — who did not sign his name — to the camp of Prince Ali — later King Ali of Hijaz, the eldest son of King Hussein Bin Ali.

The writer did not mention the location of the camp, from where the prince and the overall leader of the Revolt’s forces ran the various battles against the Turks in Arabia and Syria, but gave vivid details of everything he met since he left Mecca to join the forces in the field.

The writer reported details of the victories made during that stage of the Revolt. The other half of the second page was dedicated to other news of the Revolt, including the captivity of a senior Turkish officer accused of torture and assassination of opponents of the ultranationalist government in Istanbul.

Issue 46 included local news, reports on Turkey and military developments of the revolt and WWI.

The distribution of the paper (1916-1924) by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
