JFDA to tighten inspections of slaughter houses, shops during Eid Al Adha

AMMAN — The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) on Thursday approved a comprehensive plan to monitor all facilities under its authority in the Kingdom during Eid Al Adha holiday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Specialised control and inspection teams will monitor the designated places for selling livestock to ensure no violations occur in the specified slaughterhouse locations in the Greater Amman Municipality, according to a JFDA statement.

The celebration of Eid Al Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, marks the end of the Hajj or the greater pilgrimage to Mecca, a major ritual in Islam. During Eid Al Adha, Muslims of sufficient means are required to sacrifice livestock in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail to God, according to Muslim belief.

The inspection teams will focus on sweets shops, bakeries, juice bars, ice cream parlours, popular and fast food restaurants, butcheries, toasters and supermarkets, especially in light of the increasing temperatures.

The plan also includes the implementation of periodic visits to pharmacies and health centres to conduct drug studies to ensure compliance with health requirements.
