AMMAN — Jordan on Sunday warned against Israeli escalation in Gaza calling for an immediate halt of aggression and respecting international humanitarian law.
Violence only adds to tensions and suffering, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, expressing support for the Egyptian and UN efforts to defuse tensions.
The ministry also stressed the necessity of putting an end to all the “condemned” military operations in the Gaza Strip, whose residents are experiencing a humanitarian crisis as a result of being placed under a state of unjust siege and collective punishment in violation of international law.
The statement also warned that the absence of peace prospects, the continuing occupation and the ongoing siege on Gaza are the main threat to regional security and stability, calling on the international community to take immediate action to stop violence and protect the Palestinian people.
The ministry also called on the international community to find real political prospects for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution that guarantees the full legitimate Palestinian rights, particularly those of freedom and statehood on the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as a capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Also on Sunday, the Lower House’s Palestine Committee called on the international community to take a firm stance towards halting Israeli transgressions against the Gaza Strip and to respect the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan.
The committee stated that the government must have a firmer stance towards the occupation authority’s aggression against the Palestinian people as whole, and especially the people of Gaza, demanding that the international community implements the decisions set to protect the rights of the Palestinian people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The panel stressed that what the Gaza Strip is currently witnessing represents a violation of all international agreements and transgresses the values of humanity, pointing out that the aggression of the Israeli military is indifferent to age or gender.
