AMMAN — Jordan condemned Israeli settlers' attacks on several villages in the occupied Palestinian territories on Wednesday and called for an immediate cessation of these acts.
A Foreign Ministry statement expressed the Kingdom's condemnation of the Israeli government's approval of the construction of 1,000 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank.
Sinan Al Majali, the ministry's spokesperson, emphasised that the continuous violations and assaults in the occupied Palestinian territories foreshadow further escalation, calling on the international community to take immediate action to halt these actions.
“Violence only brings more violence,” he said, noting that it is imperative to prevent the eruption of a cycle of violence that jeopardises security and peace, for which the consequences will affect everyone.
The spokesperson underscored the urgent need to halt the escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that unilateral measures such as settlement construction, expansion, land appropriation, displacement of Palestinians and attacks against them are unlawful, illegitimate and met with rejection and condemnation.
These actions flagrantly violate international humanitarian law, and undermine the foundations of peace as well as prospects for a two-state resolution, he said.
