Jordan receives 14 low-cost tourist flights

AMMAN — The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman and the King Hussein International Airport (KHIA) in Aqaba on Saturday received 14 low-cost tourist flights.

Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said that QAIA received nine airplanes through Ryanair airlines carrying tourists from Milan, Budapest, Brussels, Bologna, Malta, Vienna and Stuttgart, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Arabiyat added that Aqaba received the other five flights, including three EasyJet flights carrying tourists from Berlin, Geneva and London and two Ryanair flights carrying tourists from Sofia and Milan.

He added that these flights are part of the JTB's efforts to attract low-costs flights. The low-cost flights have witnessed an increase since mid-2021 after low-cost carrier flights were resumed and following the recent JTB agreements to attract more tourists to the Kingdom.

The director general noted that Jordan is witnessing increasing numbers of inbound tourists from various European nationalities on board the low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair and EasyJet. The numbers are expected to increase upon the start of operations of Wizz Air in mid-December, according to the director general.

Arabiyat stressed that signing the agreements with low-cost airlines is part of a recently announced government plan to attract more tourists to the Kingdom.

He stressed that the low-cost airlines are among the largest companies that specialise in tourist transport with internationally low prices.

The director general also referred to the cooperation among the JTB, the Tourism Ministry and airline companies to ensure the sustainability of this project and make Jordan a preferable tourist destination for tourists around the world.
