Justice minister, US officials discuss human rights

AMMAN — Minister of Justice Ahmad Ziyadat, on Tuesday, stressed that Jordanian-American relations are based on respect and mutual cooperation, serving the interests of both countries. During a meeting with US Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, and US Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice, Desirée Cormier Smith, and an accompanying delegation, Ziyadat emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between Jordan and the US in the legal field, praising the distinguished relations between the two sides and the support of the US government and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), according to a ministry statement. The two sides discussed a number of human rights-related issues, including the achievements of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT), as well as future plans and projects to provide response mechanisms to combat human trafficking. Zeya highlighted the importance of the strategic relationship between the two countries, stressing the high value that her country attributes to Jordan's role in the region. She expressed her keenness to enhance the existing cooperation between the two countries to enhance the human rights system.
