King attends ceremony to honour Prince Raad

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday attended a ceremony to honour HRH Prince Raad for his enormous efforts and contributions for the service of persons with disabilities at Al Husseiniya Palace, according to a Royal Court statement.

President of the Jordanian Olympic Committee (JOC) HRH Prince Feisal, presented Prince Ra’ed the international JOC award annually granted to a noted athletic personality to highlight his/her considerable services in the sports sector.

During the ceremony, which was attended by Royal family members, a film highlighting Prince Raad’s humanitarian journey alongside persons with disabilities was screened.

The film showed his role in adopting initiatives and programmes that had a great impact on the integration of people with disabilities in society as active members, especially in sports, where they have accomplished many regional and international achievements.

For his part, Prince Raad expressed gratitude for the King’s bid to honour him and added “this appreciation is an honour to all citizens and athletics, who served Jordan honestly”. The prince also thanked the JOC, led by Prince Feisal 

Prince Raad was the president of the Supreme Council for Persons with Disabilities and chairman of the Jordanian Paralympics Committee. He founded the Jordan Paralympic Committee in 1981.
