AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday  discussed with a delegation of US Jewish leaders efforts to push forward the Middle East peace process and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, held at the Basman Palace, King Abdullah stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to resume effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, based on the two-state solution as the “only solution to end the conflict”, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty reiterated the need to reach a just and comprehensive peace agreement, which would pave the way for durable security and stability for the region and its people. He warned of the risks of failure to achieve the envisioned peace and of the ensuing despair and frustration.

The King stressed the importance of maintaining the historical status quo in Jerusalem, noting that changing it would result in numerous repercussions on the entire region.

His Majesty and the delegates also discussed regional and international efforts in the war against terrorism. They insisted on the need for a holistic approach, due to the global expansion of terrorist threats on world peace and stability.

They also went over the challenges faced by Jordan as a host country for Syrian refugees and the impact this influx of refugees has on several service sectors.

For their part, the delegates stressed the significance of the Kingdom's pivotal role in achieving peace, as well as Jordan's endeavours in enhancing regional and international peace and stability.
