AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday stressed the importance of activating joint Arab action in a manner that boosts Arab solidarity, stressing the key role of the Arab League in this regard.

During a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Nabil El Araby, discussions covered the latest developments in the Middle East and the proceedings of the 25th Arab Summit, which Kuwait hosted 10 days ago, according to a Royal Court statement.

King Abdullah asserted the importance of following up on the implementation of the decisions issued at the summit.

The King and Araby also discussed efforts under way to achieve peace in the Middle East in accordance with the two-state solution, which enjoys Arab and international consensus, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

In addition, they reviewed efforts to arrive at a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis and ways to activate international and Arab support of countries that are hosting Syrian refugees to enable them to continue their humanitarian mission.

Araby briefed King Abdullah on the Arab League’s efforts to bring Arab countries’ views of shared challenges closer, with the aim of boosting solidarity, according to the statement.

He also expressed his appreciation of Jordan’s efforts in support of Arab leaders and for hosting a large number of Syrian refugees and providing them with humanitarian assistance.

In addition, Araby lauded the King’s efforts in supporting joint Arab action and boosting regional stability.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, King’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury and Araby’s accompanying delegation attended the meeting.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour met with Araby and discussed the latest regional developments and the challenges facing the Arab world, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Discussions also covered the extraordinary meeting of the Arab foreign ministers slated for April 9 at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo and the issues on the agenda.

The two officials exchanged views on the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations, with Araby stressing the importance of supporting peace efforts that can lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the basis of the two-state solution.

They also called for a comprehensive political solution that can end the suffering of the Syrian people and safeguard the territorial unity of their country.

Ensour reviewed Jordan’s burdens resulting from hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

Judeh also met with Araby on Sunday and discussed the latest regional developments, especially the US-brokered Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.

The Arab League chief voiced keenness on maintaining coordination and consultation with Jordan on all issues, citing the Kingdom’s role as a non-permanent member on the Security Council.
