Local markets witness low demand for gold due to high prices, absence of social events

AMMAN — President of General Syndicate of Owners of Trade and Jewellery Shops Rebhi Allan said on Saturday that local markets are witnessing a low demand for gold due to their high prices and the absence of social events in solidarity with Gaza. One gramme of 21 karat gold, a public favourite, is sold for JD41.7 and purchased for JD40 in the local market. Allan added that one gramme of 24 karat gold is currently sold for JD48.9, while the selling price of 1 gramme of 18 karat gold is JD37.2, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Gold prices in the global market reached $2,063 per ounce on Friday, Allan added.
