Local markets witness low gold demand amid escalating prices

AMMAN — Local markets are witnessing a low demand for gold due to the absence of social events and the reluctance to make savings and investment purchases amid escalating prices, Rebhi Allan, president of General Syndicate of Owners of Trade and Jewellery Shops, said on Saturday. One gramme of 21 karat gold is sold for JD40.60 and purchased for JD38.9 in the local market. One gramme of 24 karat gold is currently sold for JD47.8, while the selling price of 1 gramme of 18 karat gold is JD36.2, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Gold prices in the global market reached $2,000 per ounce on Friday, Allan noted.
