Lower House refers youth recommendations to gov’t

AMMAN — The Lower House on Monday referred recent recommendations made by young people to the government. 

The recommendations aim to meet youth’s potential and allow them to get more engaged in politics and decision making to combat poverty and unemployment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The Lower House held an unofficial session on Thursday, chaired by Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, with young people from across the Kingdom, the heads of parliamentary blocs, the ministers of education, political affairs, youth and culture and parliamentary affairs.

Among the participants’ list of recommendations were slashing university fees, increasing teachers’ salaries, reducing the age of candidacy from 30 to 25, finding funds to support entrepreneurship in the governorates, amending regulations governing support for small enterprises, adding both “social services” and “social studies” to Jordanian universities’ curricula and establishing student councils at universities if they do not already exist.

During the session, Tarawneh stressed the importance of lifting up young people and providing them with the tools they need to build a better future, which conforms with the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein.
