AMMAN — The Malaysian embassy in Jordan donated stationery and cleaning supplies to over 6,300 Palestinian refugee students enrolled in nine UNRWA schools in Jordan.
The donation signing ceremony was held on Tuesday at the UNRWA Nuzha Girls School, attended by Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to Jordan Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, and Acting Director of UNRWA Affairs at the Jordan Field Office Olaf Becker as well as representatives from the school.
Becker thanked the government of Malaysia for its “steadfast” and “consistent” support to UNRWA.
He also briefed attendees on UNRWA’s operations in Jordan, which include providing humanitarian assistance in fields of education, healthcare, relief, social services, infrastructure development and emergency response for over 2.3 million registered Palestinian refugees living in Jordan.
The contribution is from Malaysia’s Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine, which was established in 2002 to collect and coordinate the donations received from Malaysians to help Palestinians, according to a statement from the embassy.
The Ambassador-Designate commended UNRWA’s efforts in providing Palestinian refugees with humanitarian assistance and protection for over 70 years.
He expressed his hope that this contribution could assist UNRWA in sustaining its operations and supporting refugee students, who “deserve to enjoy an equal access to quality education”.
Moreover, Abdul Rahman stressed the commitment of the Malaysian people and government to “providing undivided support and solidarity for Palestine and the struggles of its people”
The attendees were also given a tour of the school and the UNRWA Nuzha Health Centre.
