AMMAN — The Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Mohammad Khalaileh on Wednesday called on the public to look for the crescent moon (hilal) of Shawwal (the 10th month of the lunar calendar), which marks the end of Ramadan at sunset on Monday, June 3, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The crescent marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and the first day of the Muslim feast of Eid Al Fitr. If the sighting is confirmed, Muslims in Jordan will stop fasting on Tuesday; otherwise, they will do so on Wednesday. Sharia courts around Jordan will open to receive witnesses who saw the crescent and are willing to testify to that.
