AMMAN — Police on Tuesday said they were still investigating the murder of a 72-year-old man and his Filipina domestic helper at their home in a west Amman suburb on Sunday night.

The two victims were discovered by firefighters who were called to extinguish a blaze at around 9:30pm, which had broken out in the apartment on Medina Munwara Street late Sunday night.

“We are still investigating the incident and do not have any information to offer for the time being,” Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The apartment where the double homicide occurred is located in a four-storey building on the main thoroughfare, next to a busy clinic.

Meanwhile, officials at the embassy of the Philippines in Amman said they are following up on the incident with the Jordanian authorities.

“We do not have any information regarding this incident and are waiting for Jordanian investigators to provide us with more details,” an embassy official told The Jordan Times.

The official added that the embassy is in contact with officials in the Philippines “to inform the next of kin about their relative’s murder”.

A government autopsy at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that both victims died of heavy blows to the head with a blunt object.

The autopsy also indicated that the Filipina, aged 34,

was also stabbed once in the back, but was not subjected to any sexual assault before her death.
