AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) is moving to launch a new phase of work to modernise civil protection systems, primarily the fleet of ambulances and rescue vehicles, as well as to provide state-of-the-art equipment and improve workers' efficiency in various disciplines, Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah said on Monday.

During a visit to the Civil Defence Department (CDD), Maaytah conveyed his Majesty King Abdullah's greetings to CDD personnel, expressing pride in their efforts to provide humanitarian services and praising their efficiency in response to the residential building collapse in the Luweibdeh neighbourhood, according to a PSD statement.

Maaytah said that the PSD is improving service provision to meet the Royal vision, and the directorate has been instructed to begin a pilot programme expanding the search and rescue teams and the hazardous materials disposal teams in order to ensure the same level of effectiveness across the Kingdom.

Maaytah also inspected the main operations room of the CDD, where he was briefed on incident response procedures.
