AMMAN — At a ceremony organised by the Public Security Directorate (PSD) marking World Traffic Day and Arab Traffic Week, under the theme “Traffic Rules are a Civilised Behaviour”, Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya commended the PSD’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic services in Jordan.

The minister also noted that the Directorate works “around the clock” and in various circumstances to provide traffic services and implement good traffic planning in partnership with ministries and national institutions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For his part, PSD Assistant Director-General of Traffic and Foreigners Affairs, Col. Rami Al Dabbas, said that the PSD has worked through operational and media axes to promote a traffic culture based on a commitment to traffic rules and a rejection of dangerous traffic violations through awareness and media campaigns.

On the legal side, the directorate has used trained human resources and modern technology to enforce traffic laws and strengthen traditional and electronic control and monitoring. The implementation of new technology and improved personnel training has contributed to reducing accidents by 14 per cent and has reduced the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents by 4 per cent during the first three months of 2023, he noted.

At the end of the event, Faraya honoured a number of committed drivers from various governorates, as well as military and civilian personnel who have been driving for more than 15 years without any traffic accidents or record of traffic violations.

The attendees also toured a traffic exhibition showcasing the most important modern road safety equipment organised by the PSD for the occasion.

PSD  Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah was also in attendance at the ceremony, Petra reported.
