Rain fills Jordan’s dams with 3 million cubic metres in 5-hour period

AMMAN — About three million cubic metres (mcm) of rainwater filled the Kingdom' dams in just five hours on Tuesday, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation said in a statement.
The ministry said that the King Talal Dam was filled with about 1.6mcm, followed by the Kafrin Dam with 190,000 cubic metres, bringing the total storage to 32.5mcm, or 48.6 per cent, in the King Talal Dam, and 4.5mcm, or 52 per cent, in the Kafrin Dam, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Dams in the southern region of the Kingdom have not yet received any amount of rainwater, the ministry added. Overall, the Kingdom's primary dams now hold 33.16 per cent, or 93.5mcm, of their total storage capacity of 280.7mcm. So far, the Kingdom has received 64 per cent of Jordan’s long term rainfall average of 8.1 billion cubic metres since the start of the rainy season.
