Rainfall fills dams to 117mcm, 41.65% of storage capacity

AMMAN — The volume of rainfall has met 85.5 per cent of Jordan’s long-term annual average of 8.1 billion cubic metres, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Over the past 24 hours, the highest quantity of rainfall was recorded in Madaba, with 21.4 millimetres (mm), the Water Ministry announced on Sunday. 

A total of 700,000 million cubic metres of water entered the Kingdom’s dams as a result of the recent rainfall, increasing Jordanian dams’ water storage to 117mcm, equivalent to 41.65 per cent of their full storage capacity of 280.759 mcm.

At the governorate level, Amman saw 5.5mm of rain, 7.3mm in Balqa, 7.8mm in Madaba, 0.7mm in Zarqa, 7.8mm in Jerash, 0.6mm in Mafraq, 5.6mm in Irbid, 8.4mm in Ajloun, and 1.3mm in Karak, while Tafileh, Maan and Aqaba did not witness any rainfall.
