RSS signs deals with Chinese research institute

AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI), according to a statement from the society.
JITRI is tasked with the development of industrial technology research and the commercialisation of advanced technologies for the province of Jiangsu, a leading region for technology and finance in China, the statement said
Commenting on the agreement, HRH Princess Sumaya, president of the RSS, said the move recognised the RSS and JITRI’s shared desire to build new roads for engagement, trade and innovation. “Routes along which ideas will flow and friendships through collaboration will be forged between us,” the princess said.
The MoU marks the beginning of a joint mission to advance and promote applied research and commercialisation. The relationship will focus on the areas of energy, big data analytics, water and environment. JITRI, which comprises a range of cutting-edge research institutes and collaborations, will work with the RSS to develop and implement applied research projects to strengthen technological innovation and industrial research and development in China and Jordan, the statement read.
Princess Sumaya University for Technology signed another MoU with JITRI, to develop and implement applied research projects. This will focus on developing joint research projects in areas including big data and data sciences, artificial intelligence and robotics and computer network security, through student and expert exchanges, sharing of academic materials, collaborative conferences, seminars and workshops and the establishment of joint laboratories and research centres.
The two MoUs will also facilitate collaboration with various universities in Jiangsu province and other universities and research institutions in Jordan, as well as the establishment of joint laboratories and research centres in the Kingdom focused on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation under China's “Belt and Road” Initiative for infrastructure and investment, the statement said.
The JITRI delegation was headed by Wang Qin, director general of Jiangsu Science and Technology Department, accompanied by Liu Qing, president of JITRI, and other senior Chinese officials.
