Safadi attends 8th Rome Med – Mediterranean Dialogues

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday participated in the inauguration of the eighth edition of the Rome Med – Mediterranean Dialogues, which was opened by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

The event was organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Studies on International Politics with the participation of representatives of 58 countries, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

In a speech during the inaugural session, Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani praised the Kingdom’s role in maintaining regional security and stability and its considerable commitment to hosting refugees. 

Tajani also commended Jordan’s pioneering role in its efforts to achieve a just solution to the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution and endeavours to return the parties to the dialogue table in a bid to reach serious and effective negotiations, underlining the importance of the role of Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s holy sites.

Safadi, Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Algerian National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Hossam Zaki and Member of the Quartet of the Tunisian National Dialogue Widad Bouchmary participated in the main interactive session of the eighth session of the conference, held under the title “Restructuring the post-Ukrainian international order”.

The Rome Med – Mediterranean Dialogue was first held in 2015 and has since been an annual event covering regional and international issues and challenges that concern Mediterranean countries.
