AMMAN — The Al Rai Research Centre, affiliated with the Jordan Press Foundation (JPF)/Al Rai, on Sunday organised a symposium titled “Jordan’s Efforts to Address the Syrian Refugee Crisis and the Role of Arab Humanitarian Organisations in Supporting Them”.
The event focused on a project aimed at addressing the learning challenges faced by Syrian refugees and explored the political, economic and social consequences of the refugee crisis, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) Secretary-General Hussein Al Shibli highlighted the organisation’s pivotal role in responding to the Syrian refugee crisis, noting that JHCO’s involvement began in early 2011 with the aim of ensuring the provision of humanitarian services to refugees.
Between 2012 and 2014, the organisation provided direct assistance in refugee camps with the support of international agencies, he said. Shibli noted that since March 27, 2014, JHCO has been the only entity authorised to receive donations and aid from international agencies supporting Syrian refugees.
Shibli said that the total number of Syrian refugees in Zaatari and Azraq camps has reached 656,762, while the total number of refugees living inside and outside the camps is about 1.3 million.
Mustafa Awad, director of the International Islamic Charitable Organisation’s Jordan office, said that the Jordan office has launched 41 relief campaigns, distributed tens of thousands of aid parcels and sponsored a number of university and school students.
