AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) agents have foiled an attempt to smuggle a “huge” quantity of drugs to a neighbouring country, arresting two Arab suspects and seizing 3 million narcotic pills in Aqaba, the Public Security Department (PSD) said Saturday in a statement.
AND agents received information about the suspects, identified them and monitored their movements.
On Friday night two vehicles belonging to the suspects were followed in coordination with various patrols to a road leading to a border crossing in Aqaba where one of the patrols stopped the first vehicle and arrested the Arab suspect driving it, the statement said.
The second suspect fled but crashed his vehicle and exited running and shooting at the police, who shot him in the leg and arrested him, confiscating his automatic rifle.
Agents found a Jordanian in the car the suspect was driving who died as a result of the crash.
The 3 million narcotic pills were found in the first vehicle, while other drugs and hashish were found in the second one.
