AMMAN — Police have detained two suspects who were “planning to defraud people by selling fake artefacts and counterfeit foreign currencies”, the Public Security Department (PSD) said Wednesday.
Based on a tip they received, Amman police tracked down the suspects and raided their houses, where they found seven gold statues, 800 gold coins, a $1 million bill and some weapons.
The suspects were detained and the items were shown to experts from the Department of Antiquities, who confirmed that they were fake.
The PSD urged the public not to fall for such scams.
