Unstable weather conditions expected this week

AMMAN — Unstable weather conditions are forecast to affect the country on Tuesday, bringing thunderstorms and scattered showers, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

The impact of the unstable weather conditions, which will continue to prevail until Thursday, is expected to be stronger in the eastern region, a JMD weather forecaster said.

Unstable weather conditions usually occur during the transitional period between summer and autumn, when warm winds merge with cold winds from Eastern Europe causing the formation of clouds and thunderstorms, according to the JMD.

The weather is usually warm and cloudy during such spells. 

Rain is also expected with floods forecast in the desert region, especially the eastern desert, according to the department.

JMD figures indicate that unstable weather conditions during autumn bring less than 1 per cent of the country’s long-term annual average of eight billion cubic metres of rainfall.

It is expected to be cloudy on Tuesday with chances of scattered rain and thunderstorms, the weather forecaster said, noting that temperatures in Amman will range between a high of 24°C during the day and a low of 14°C at night.

Winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk, raising dust in the desert, the meteorologist added, warning of possible reduced road visibility.

The unstable weather conditions will continue prevailing on Wednesday and Thursday, when the weather will be cloudy and rainy, with temperatures in the capital reaching a maximum of 23°C and dropping to a minimum of 13°C, according to the JMD.
