AMMAN — The country will be affected by unstable weather conditions on Wednesday night that are expected to cause a tangible drop in temperatures and bring heavy rain, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Tuesday.

Temperatures will drop slightly below their annual average of 17°C during this time of year, following an upper trough that raised temperatures 9-10 degrees above average, according to JMD meteorologist Laila Shaheen.

A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, but the weather will remain fair during the day as temperatures will be six to seven degrees above the annual average, Shaheen said.

“The weather will become cloudy at night and heavy rain is expected in most parts of the country. Rainfall will be accompanied by thunder and lightning,” the meteorologist added.

Temperatures in Amman will reach 24°C during the day, dropping to 10°C at night, while winds during the day will be southeasterly moderate to brisk raising dust in the badia, turning to northwesterly at night.

A sharp drop in temperatures is forecast for Thursday, when the weather will be cloudy, relatively cold and rainy, Shaheen noted.

“Rainfall, which is expected in most areas of the country on Thursday as well, will be heavy and accompanied by thunder and lightning in the morning. As of Thursday night, the rain will gradually stop,” she said.

Temperatures in the capital will range between a high of 14°C and a low of 5°C, while winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk.

On Friday, it will be relatively cold across the country, except for the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, where the weather will be fair, according to the JMD.

Daytime temperatures in Amman will reach a maximum of 16°C, dropping to a minimum of 7°C overnight.
