Water demand rises by 40 per cent in badia — official

AMMAN — The Northeastern Badia Water Department has recorded 18 violations on water mains and sub grids since the beginning of the year, and commenced legal action against violators, District Water Department Director Marwan Turki said on Wednesday.
Syrian refugees and urban expansion in the badia contributed to a 40 per cent increase in water demand this summer, Turki told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, adding that the Water Ministry cooperated with international agencies to implement projects to address rising water needs.
He noted that the projects contributed to the reduction of water loss in the district from 70 to 55 per cent.
