Emperor of Japan awards former foreign minister Nasser Judeh with Order of Rising Sun

AMMAN — Emperor Naruhito, who ascended to the Imperial throne of Japan earlier this month and, in his first conferment ceremony, bestowed upon former foreign minister Nasser Judeh the Grand Cordon of Order of the Rising Sun, the highest Japanese decoration awarded to non Japanese personalities, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Thursday.
The formal ceremony was attended by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
This distinguished order awarded by the Japanese government came in recognition for Judeh’s role in and contributions to advancing the historic relationship and friendship between the Jordan and Japan over many years, particularly during his tenure as foreign minister, a statement from Judeh’s office said.
Judeh expressed his pride and gratitude for receiving this high honour which he referred to as an acknowledgement of Jordan as well as for him personally, and added that it reflects the decades-old strong and historic relationship between the two countries and peoples, according to the statement.
