Campaign raises JD100,000 to repair homes for families in need

AMMAN — The Jordanian Engineers Association (JEA) launched the Fazet Ahel campaign on Friday to repair the homes of underprivileged families, raising JD100,000 on the first day. 

With the arrival of winter, the initiative aims to repair homes suffering from leaks or at risk of collapse, JEA President Majid Tabba told The Jordan Times.

“The initiative emanates from our feeling of social responsibility... we are part of the Jordanian community and we must feel their needs,” said Tabba. 

The money raised so far will cover the repairs for 20 to 25 houses, he said, adding that the campaign would continue to collect funds. 

JEA engineers will volunteer to undertake the repairs through committees to be formed in every governorate. 

“As engineers, we have the potential and specialisation to assist in this field,” said Tabba, noting that the JEA has around 1,200 engineers who do voluntary work with the association. 

The association has allocated a special account to receive money and in-kind donations for the campaign in its branches across Jordan, he noted.  

Families in need of assistance to repair their homes can apply to the JEA through the association’s branches, the National Aid Fund or the Ministry of Social Development, Tabba added.
