AMMAN — The Engineering Offices Commission is considering a plan under which engineers receive a JD100,000 compensation when they retire, EOC President Raed Kamel announced Sunday.
At a press conference held by the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) to highlight its vocational role, Kamel said the plan is aimed at securing better lives for engineers when they retire.
The JEA has around 100,000 members.
“Under the plan, engineers will pay JD0.5 for each square metre of construction blueprints they design to a special fund at the Jordan Engineers Association,” Kamel noted, adding the fund also aims at securing free lifetime health insurance for engineers and their families.
During the press conference, JEA President Majid Tabba briefed reporters on the association’s responsibilities, which include registration, classification and supervision of engineering firms, in addition to reviewing their employees’ qualifications through regular inspections.
“The syndicate has signed agreements with six governorates, under which the JEA is tasked with supervising construction blueprints,” Tabba noted, adding that such agreements present a good example of cooperation with public departments.
The association also seeks to activate electronic services and archives to save service recipients’ time and effort, and to establish an electronic link with relevant institutions, the JEA president added.
In a statement distributed to reporters at the press conference, the JEA called on ministries and other public institutions to pay engineering consultancy offices their overdue fees for provided services.
