AMMAN — The Kingdom's private sector aspires for comprehensive and growing economic ties with Syria, Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Nael Kabariti said on Sunday.
During a meeting with Syrian Ambassador Shafiq Dayoub, Kabariti said that the private sector “believes in the inevitability of working as a team to realise aspirations of a promising future for the economic ties between the two countries”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing a JCC statement issued on Monday.
The chairman also said that resuming trade with Syria at previous rates is a joint interest for both countries, especially that Syria's border crossings and ports are vital for Jordan as a transit point for goods to Europe and beyond.
Dayoub highlighted the "deep-rooted" economic ties between Amman and Damascus, which Jordan is keen to enhance especially after the latest visit by the minister of industry and trade to Damascus.
