AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned an extremist who burned a copy of the Holy Koran in Denmark, describing it as “an act of hatred and Islamophobia that incites violence and religious hatred”.
The ministry reiterated its rejection of such irresponsible acts that provoke the feelings of Muslims, fuel hatred and threaten peaceful coexistence, a ministry statement said.
The ministry called the international community to mobilise to address and ban these acts by enacting laws that criminalise and prevent extremism, religious hatred and desecration of religious symbols and sanctities. Instead, the ministry urged the international community to promote a culture of peace, harmony, tolerance and acceptance of others, and raise awareness of the importance of respecting each others’ values.
