AMMAN — The Palestinian cause and Jerusalem are at a critical juncture, acting Lower House Speaker Nassar Qaisi said on Monday, as he called for Arabs to maintain the “single-hearted unity” underpinning support for an independent Palestinian state and the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Qaisi’s remarks came during a meeting with an Indonesian parliament delegation headed by Indonesian Senator Abraham Liyanto and attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan Andy Rachmianto, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
As a result of its supportive stances towards Palestinians, the Kingdom has experienced a number of challenges, he added, affirming that Parliament, the government and people's stances on Palestinians’ rights are in compliance with the Jordanian leadership's position, which gives high priority to the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, the central issues in the region.
While expressing Jordan’s appreciation of Indonesian support for Palestinians, Qaisi lauded Jakarta's clearly stated positions defending Palestinians' right to establish their independent state on their national soil, with Jerusalem as its capital.
He also highlighted the "advanced level" of bilateral relations between Jordan and Indonesia and expressed his hopes for the two countries to coordinate their common stances, notably on a parliamentary level, to support the Palestinians.
For his part, Liyanto lauded the "friendly relations" between Amman and Jakarta. He reviewed the two countries’ common stances on a number of issues, topped by the Palestinian cause and importance of the Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The members of the Indonesian delegation also expressed their country's readiness to cooperate, coordinate and unify efforts to support Palestinian refugees and the Palestinian cause.
Talks also covered the importance of advancing the two countries’ partnerships in the fields of parliament, investment, tourism, trade and culture, Petra added.
