AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma Bint Ali, founder of the Royal Botanical Garden, on Monday stressed the importance of embodying the positive coexistence between man and the environment to ensure safe sustainability on earth.
Attending an environmental camp organised by the Faculty of Technological Agriculture at the Balqa Applied University, held in Tall Al Rumman area under the theme “Youth for a safe environment”, Princess Basma said that there are major challenges facing agriculture and the environment in Jordan and the world.
The princess considered protecting the earth as an obligatory duty for each human due to the fact that all people breathe the same air, live the same circumstances and face the same threats, which require joining efforts to preserve the environment and secure a safe life for coming generations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
She addressed participating students by telling them that they are the leaders of the future and they are responsible for launching creative initiatives and spreading the environmental culture starting from their homes.
The princess called on the students to embark on enhancing proper environmental practices, such as limiting littering, waste recycling, and encouraging the use of alternative energy.
President of the Balqa Applied University Ahmad Ajlouni expressed appreciation for Princess Basma’s attendance, stressing that the university is keen on the environmental and botanical fields.
He also said that the university is in constant communication with western and US peers to dispatch faculty members and students in the fields of agriculture, environment and food security.
At the end of the event, Princess Basma handed over certificates to the 45 students attending the camp.
