Winners of King Abdullah II Award for Creativity honoured

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday attended a ceremony to honour winners of the King Abdullah II Award for Creativity 2014.

Jamal Amr from Jordan and Tareq Bakri from Lebanon were the winners in the arts category of the award’s seventh edition, while Ali Badran, also from Jordan, won the award in the field of science, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The award, which is divided into the categories of art, science and the Arab city, is given every two years to municipalities, organisations and individuals with projects resulting in substantial national and societal advancement. Meanwhile, the Greater Amman Municipality was the winner in the Arab city, its issues and architecture projects category.

Amman Mayor Aqel Biltaji said GAM will allocate the JD25,000-award to the construction of the Arab Army Square in Abdali, according to Petra. 

In a speech on behalf of the award’s judging panels, Ziyad Zu’bi said the award is designated for any Arab innovator who contributes to the progress of the Arab nation.

Fourteen Arab states participated in the award’s seventh edition, represented by 57 competitors in the arts section (children’s literature), 18 in sciences (solar energy applications) and 11 in the Arab city section, Petra reported.
