AMMAN — Minister of Culture and Youth Mohammad Abu Rumman on Thursday suggested establishing an “advisory cultural council” in every governorate, to plan and coordinate cultural events within the local community, according to an official statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The minister reaffirmed the importance of encouraging youth engagement and the role of the ministry in the cultivation of the local cultural spirit to rejuvenate Jordan’s grass-root cultural identity and movement.
During a panel discussion with the heads of the ministry’s departments and branches at the Royal Cultural Centre in Amman, Abu Rumman stressed that the country’s youth and culture are its underlying driving force.
Efforts through the suggested council should be on a voluntary basis, to encourage societal involvement. Reading clubs and cultural initiatives should also be fostered through the ministry’s youth channels and centres in the governorates, he added.
